So, I made a blog. Again.
In the past, I’ve had multiple interations of blog here, but at some point I pulled it. Over the past few years, there’s been nothing on this domain, and I’ve only been using it for email. But I’ve noticed that of late I Have Opinions. And some of those are wanting to be aired — thus, the blog.
When I started in Witchery, the World Wide Web didn’t exist. When I did get onto the Web Wide Web, social media didn’t exist. And it’s not just technology that has moved on apace; Witchery has, too.
I never wanted to be a Witch who stuck her head in the sand and ignored the world around her little bubble, but I did precisely that for a time, back when I was kept busy with planning our handfasting/wedding and then moving house and making a home. For a long while, I was content just lurking in online groups and keeping my opinions to myself.
My Gods had Other Ideas, of course.
The first half of 2019 was been a bit crap for me, truth be told. A significant bereavement. A serious health scare. Working my way through both, whilst getting more and more incensed with the world — both online and off. And feeling the nudge from “Upstairs” that I have things to do — a nudge that has become more and more insistent as the days go on. A realisation that I have things to say and share, and that I miss blogging. So, here I go again.
There’s a longer version over on my About page, but I’m Heather (she/her), and I’ve been in the Craft for over thirty years. I happily answer to Heathwitch, too. My path has seen many variations and transformations over that time, but a Witch I have remained. Now, some people view Witchcraft as precisely that — a craft — that they practice alongside their religion or spirituality (if they have one; I know a fair few agonostic and Humanistic/Naturalistic Witches). Others view Witchcraft as both a spirituality and a craft. Each of these interpretations is entirely valid; Witchcraft is a living tradition which is in a constant state of change and evolution according to its historical and contemporary practitioners and thought leaders. (I’ll probably talk about this some more in the future.)
I’m a Witch who both practices her craft and finds spiritual connection and devotion through it: a Spiritual Witch, if you like. So some of my musings here will be of a more practical nature, and some will be more spiritual. I also have a thing for ethics and responsibility, so I expect those concepts may show their faces too, from time to time. I will talk from my own experience and understanding of things, whilst also aiming to constantly improve and grow as I do so.
And so — Welcome. I’m glad you’re here. Let’s see where this goes.
